Steps for Applying for Work Permit

To apply for the work permit, you will need to go to the local hospital (Mueang Samut) to have a medical check-up. This is only a few minutes walk from the school. PT will take you there. If it is your first time, you will need to take your passport as they need to register you at the hospital. She will then take you upstairs. The nurse will take your blood pressure and write down your weight and height. She will then take some blood to run some tests. This is for:

1. Leprosy
2. Tuberculosis
3. Elephantiasis
4. Drugs
5. Alcoholics
6. Syphilis

You won’t be able to get a work permit if you test positive for any of the above.

Once your work permit is ready to pick up, PT will take you to the Labor Office. It’s a five-minute walk from the school and so PT will meet you there. Come out of the school and turn left. Walk to the end of the road. Turn right here and walk to the traffic lights at the intersection. The labor office is there on your right. You only need to stay long enough to sign your name. Then you can go back to school. PT will stay to pick up your work permit.

Once you have your work permit, by law, you need to keep it at your place of work. If there is an inspection of the school, you will need to show it. Don’t lose it! Your work permit can be used to get Thai price at some tourist attractions.
